Kick Off Your Sunday Shoes

The boyish silhouette that was ALL THE RAGE for women in the 1920s is showing up more than ever for 2011!
pictures from forever21.com
Not only are blazers, trousers, and turban style headbands very IN right now, but mens footwear is stepping into the SPOTLIGHT! Mens inspired shoes stomped across runways upon the feet of many men, and the OPPOSITE sex. Designers such as Urban Outfitters, Christian Louboutin, Steve Madden and many more, showed androgynous shoes playing a major role in their Spring lines.
Whitney Port, Rihanna, Sienna Miller and WAY more celebrities have been constantly spotted wearing oxfords. This HOT trend is becoming more and more popular everyday...

You can pair these trendy shoes with almost ANYTHING. Couple them with a feminine skirt for a flirty more girly look, rock them with some boyish trousers for chic style, or go for a casual ensemble by wearing them along side some rolled up jeans! Here are some ECU Pirates wearing their own versions of this fashionable footwear fad for Spring 2011...

This chic student was rockin' the blazer trend along with the some oxford inspired sneakers. Not only did he look casual, but he looked professional too!
This adorable pirate was as styling as anyone with her unbearably cute oxfords, boyish 1920s inspired haircut, and extremely popular Ray-ban style sunglasses.
Another fashionable pirate paired the casual oxford style tennis shoes with a teal-blue colored sweater which is the perfect color for the transition from Winter to Spring weather.

So next time you hit the mall, ladies and gents, take your time to look for some "menswear" inspired shoes!  Not only will you look cute, but you'll be comfortable too! Thats all for today...

Random Acts of Trendiness

It is another perfect day where the weather is in the 70's and EVERYONE at ECU is taking advantage of it! Shorts, sandals and skirts were pulled out closets, bins, and suitcases and dusted off to be worn way more than once between now and next Autumn. On Friday, when Allison and I were scouring out chic students on campus, we took picture after picture of pirates that didn't really have a common "theme" to their clothes, but still looked FIERCE. This is when I came up with a new idea that will go down once a week! The title is....

RANDOM ACTS OF TRENDINESS

This is where we take all the pictures that don't really fit into a category or theme and throw them together to make their own group...BAM! Fab idea right? I thought so. Now for our first Random Acts of Trendiness post! Hope you enjoy it guys...

The gold jewelry that adorned this mod pirate was trendy and classy, while having funky flair accented by the tiger and umbrella charms on her bracelet.
This blue blouse with its airy quality is perfectly appropriate for the in-between weather of winter and spring.
While rockin' his Yankees hat this grinning student was looking fresh, fashionable, and above all else, very friendly.
Denim shirts are all the rage these days, and this stylish student paired it perfectly with an accent of purple and some hot shoes to top off his look.
Adding some tribal flair (which is VERY in this season) to his ensemble, this undergraduate was looking absolutely up to snuff with the latest spring trends.
Although the weather is gradually getting warmer, a brightly colored scarf can add a pop of color to any outfit.
Its obvious that this Travie McCoy look-alike (aka: the lead singer of Gym Class Heros) was dressed to impressed with some classic aviator style sun glasses and a bright blue t-shirt that is an ideal color for spring.

Thats all we have for our first R.A.O.T post, pronounced like riot with a british accent in case you were wondering, but make sure you keep an eye out for some more pictures coming up soon on PPT! Enjoy this marvelous Monday and...

Rockin' Ray-Bans and Toms

HELLO BLOGGERS!
First off I want to give a shout out to Laura (click her name to go straight to her blog) for designing my new blog! I love it and I think it looks cute and fresh and ideal for all the students whose pictures will be posted here on PPT! Thanks twin!

In other news, the weather in Greenville has been absolutely PERFECT lately. Seriously people, you don't even understand how amazing it has been! 75 in February?? What! Yes please.

On Friday, my wonderfully talented accomplice Allison and myself went out on a stalker date in front of Dowdy (one of the cafeteria areas here at ECU.) With her camera in hand and I by her side, we made our way up to subject after subject to tell them about the blog and ask permission for their picture to be posted on PPT! Let me just say, it was WAY easier to ask people when I had Allison beside me then when I was by myself nervously chasing people around my school. We saw a TON of chic outfits, but two popular trends that stood out were...
Ray-Ban style sunglasses
and TOMS

Here are some fashion forward Pirates who rocked the TOM and Ray-Ban look in this amazing spring weather...

These old school Ray-Bans were looking hot and happenin' and ideal for Spring.
The way this beautiful blonde paired an Alexa Chung style neck-tie with rustic cowboy boots and some animal print Ray-Ban style sunglasses was effortlessly adorable.
Not only did the style of these Pirates rival that of an artsy Chuck Bass, but they combined the TOM and Ray-Ban trends perfectly.
This smiling student paired lace up TOMS with a more casual look and yet still looked perfectly appropriate for the first signs of spring.

Thats all we've got for today my fashionable friends but stay tuned for some more pictures of chic pirates around ECU! Hope you all have a FAB weekend!

Catwalk The Plank...

YAY!
My internship blog post is FINALLY up!! I am SO excited! I have been waiting for this post to be up for about a week now and I am really happy with what I put together! Even the title...CATWALK THE PLANK...
how did I think of that, you ask? I have no idea, but I really like it! Heres a preview of the post and a link to A Blonde Ambition where the real post is! Hope you enjoy it!

PREVIEW
The favorite trends of your very own ECU pirate
Lindy Maddox

As everyone knows, fashions are constantly changing. I’ve always tried to keep up with trends but I’ve come to realize, sometimes what’s trendy is NOT always cute. I went from wearing heinous platform tennis shoes in elementary school, to baggy cargo pants and fake glasses in middle school. Then came spaghetti straps and ripped jeans in high school, and now I’m at flowy tops and skinny jeans in college. Not everyone gets it right, and it definitely takes a lot of practice, but once you find your signature style you have to OWN IT. Reading Seventeen Magazine and watching the O. C used to be my way of keeping up with trends, but I’ve never followed them as much as I do now. The toolbar on my Mac is packed with fashion blog after fashion blog, and after they were all voraciously read more than once, I came to the conclusion that SPRING STYLES HAVE FINALLY SPRUNG. One of my personal favorites for spring 2011 was the catwalk adorned with Whitney Eve’s new line.... click here to keep reading!

Cheer up sleepy jean shorts, oh what can it mean...

(The titles like the song, get it!? okay good) First I want to start by saying HAPPY BELATED VALENTINES DAY guys and gals! I hope all of you, whether single or taken, had a wonderful day full of fun! In other news, it is a FABULOUS week here in the Ville de Green with amazing weather and a light workload and to put it simply...I am just in a really good mood! But before I begin this blog post I have two extremely exciting things to share with you!

NUMBER ONE
Tomorrow my lovely boss Leslie whom I have been interning with for about a month or two is sharing a post on her blog, A Blonde Ambition, that I wrote for her! I am BEYOND excited about this opportunity and cannot believe that I have the chance to work along someone so talented and stylish! Leslie is extremely sweet and graciously took me as her intern and I cannot wait to learn from her and start my career in fashion world! The assignment was to write about my favorite designers and trends for Sprig 2011! So MAKE SURE that you tune in tomorrow where I am going to post a link right to the article that I wrote! I AM SO EXCITED PEOPLE!

NUMBER TWO
At the beginning of the year I met a fellow fashionista named Allison! She is stylish and sweet and wears amazing clothes and I am so glad we are getting to know each other! Unfortunately we are taking geology together (I am saying unfortunately because geology is seriously the most boring class I have EVER had) and after one day of cramming for a test and many other days of getting to know each other, she told me she would help me take pictures for Pirates Prevailing Taste AND be the second person whose hot outfit I posted about! I was so happy! I love Allison and I can't wait to get to know her better and write about my favorite thing with her...CLOTHES. And now, finally, the real blog post begins...

JORTS

The urban dictionary definition of jorts, while hilarious, does not give them enough credit...

jorts

jean shorts; stylish casualwear for the unpretentious
Dude, those jorts are slammin'! Did you get them at Penney's?

While jean shorts may not look appealing on men over 5 who pair them with any type of NASCAR attire or a mullet, they can look perfectly acceptable on WOMEN who are stylish and want to keep it casual. A couple years ago the popular trend of jean shorts came back into play and it has yet to leave! Jean shorts are cute and trendy and can be worn on almost anyone. They can be paired with many different things and continue to look adorable. The latest craze for jean shorts is coupling them tights. Yesterday, my new partner in crime Allison was rocking the jorts and tights look paired with a chic blazer and some oxford-style shoes! Can you say VOGUE!?

Here is my rendition of pairing jorts with tights that I pulled together today....

Here is the moral of the story folks, jorts don't have to look 90's. They don't have to be paired with a cooler and a redneck hairdo, and they definitely don't always look bad. They can look CHIC, STYLISH, TRENDY, HOT, FASHIONABLE and any other describing word you can think of that means FIERCE. So do not be scared to buy some jorts! And if you don't have enough money in your wallet (like me) pull out some jeans that don't fit you like you wish they did and give them a little makeover! Then go to Target, buy some tights for 7 dollars (like me) and pair them with your new jean shorts! You will be lookin fly in a matter of minutes! Do you want to know why? Cus jorts rock, dude.

I'll have a tall skinny decaf accessory, please? Extra whipped cream.

The Starbucks on ECU's campus
There are not enough words to describe how OBSESSED I am with this establishment. It's not because of the delicious taste of the coffee. It's not because of their amazing Reduced Fat Banana Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake. It's not because of the frappuccinos or the cappuccinos or the lattes. It's because Starbucks is cozy. It's the perfect place to come with a book and sit. It's the memories made there, and the work that gets done when I go there, that makes me adore it so much. It's the way I can walk into any Starbucks in the world and suddenly be transported to a street corner in New York. I can think there. I can sit in a oddly comfortable wooden chair in Starbucks and people watch for hours and hours. The easiest way to say it is...
I LOVE STARBUCKS.
Which is why, if I am anywhere on campus other than my apartment or class, I am in Starbucks. And just like you saw in my first post on this blog, Starbucks is a fantastic place to see people wearing cute outfits. Do you wanna know why? BECAUSE cute outfits and coffee go together (or comfy clothes and coffee, but thats beside the point). DON'T ask me why, but they do. No questions asked.
Starbucks is an accessory of its own. Not just because you're holding it in your hand along with your outfit, but because (like the say in You've Got Mail) it expresses ones personality. You can tell what someone likes, what they don't like, and what kind of mood their in by the drink that they order. Starbucks IS fashion. One thing I noticed this week is that the color RED and BLACK AND WHITE STRIPES are VERY in right now! I saw so many people wearing red coats, or carrying red bags, or wearing black and white stripes. These are a two fashionable people I saw in Starbucks on campus, ordering their own accessories...
So next time you're out and about and you need to add a little pick me up to your day, go to Starbucks and order yourself an accessory! Pretend you're on a street corner in The Big Apple and sip on some fashion! Not only will it satisfy your taste buds, but it'll be WAY easier on your wallet than a new bag!

beauty is in the EYE of the beholder...

So before I get the real blog post started, I just want to say that channeling some old-timey fashion is LOADS of fun! I decided to have a go at 2 things this week...

NUMBER 1: I discovered my inner 20's spy. THAT'S RIGHT. You read correctly. This week I grabbed a newspaper, and my new fedora (AND my new boots that I wanted to wear just because I am OBSESSED with them and I think they're really cute and I haven't shared them on here yet) and embraced my inner detective.
Here's my spin on what a 20's agent would wear in 2011...
Here I am just casually reading the newspaper (which I do every day, duh?...) in my fedora, no big deal. Be jealous...
NUMBER 2: I dragged out my inner beatnik, man! And this is where the REAL fun begins because...

Fashion for Spring is going
RETRO

Not only are the clothes for Spring 2011 taking on a hippie vibe, but so is the eye makeup! This week I decided to put my own (less dramatic) spin on what the runways were showing this season! BRIGHT COLORS and GOLDEN SUNSET inspired makeup donned the faces of the skinny fashion forward models that walked the catwalk during fashion week. Their eccentric eyeshadow made their 70's throwback style look authentic and suitable for any Spring day!

I apologize in advance for the INSANELY close pictures of my eyeball...but I have to admit, it is one GOOD looking eye (just my opinion!)

So go ahead and pull out your fringe, grab your tie-dye and embrace your inner flower child with some FREE SPIRIT-TREE HUGGIN-BOHEMIAN inspired eye makeup this week! Not only will you be rocking HAUTE HIPPIE style, but you'll be soaking in some Spring rays in no time! And just remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Peace, Love, & Fashion.
